Zia Cathy’s was love at first sight. My husband and I had a goal to restore the 200 years old derilict farmhouse into a Comfortable, Elegant, Family Inspired location for local and overseas guest to enjoy their happiest Life Events and to chill out, relaxing in the pool or garden in between day tripping and exploring the quaint surrounding villages.
The Farmhouse had been restored with lots of love and passion, to project a warm, welcome atmosphere of staying at your Aunt’s. Hence the name. Zia ( Aunty) Cathy . We as a Family are proud of what we have achieved. comfortable light airy bedrooms with antique furnishings for each room. The shady porches to enjoy the garden view while breakfasting or relaxing with a book.
Visit Civita Castellana, Population 15,885
The Cathedral of S. Maria Maggiore, (Il Duomo). Beautiful impressive facade with cosmatesque floor mosaic works, created by Lorenzo Cosmati and sons. During the summer months of July to August. Il Duomo is the most extraordinary back drop for the concerts performed by local and International artist for Civita Festival.
The Fortress (Forte Sangallo). A fine example of military architecture. The splendid Borgiano fortress, built in the end of the XV century by Antonio da Sangallo il Vecchio. Today houses the Archaeological Museum of the Agro Falisco, with free entry on the hour, opened from Tuesday To Sunday.
Castel Sant’ Elia, Population 2, 642
The Basilica of Sant’Elia is a Romanesque structure, one of the most suggestive in the whole region.The apse was entirely frescoed around 1000. The columns separating the nave’s bays were taken from Roman buildings.
The Sanctuary of Santa Maria ad Rupes, housing a tunnel with 144 steps carved out of tuft by Rodio, a local hermit,taking him 14 years to complete. Today a place of Worship for Pilgrims.
Nepi, Population 9, 317
Famous worldwide for it’s Mineral Water. Dominating the entrance to the town is the Castello Borgia, a 15th century reconstruction of a feudal manor, surrounded by massive walls and 4 towers, was once the property of Lucrezia Borgia. Cathedral of the Assunta built in the 12th century over a pagan temple. It was rebuilt in 1831 after French troops set it on fire during the Napoleonic Wars. Only the crypt remains, which includes a primitive pagan altar. The town hall, designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger in the 15th century, completed in the 18th. The base was of stone, embellished by a porch, and the upper part had windows and a balcony with a bell-tower. Immediately in front is a fountain presumed to have been designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
